Regeneration hawken5/24/2023 This means we must address current human needs, not future existential threats, real as they are, with initiatives that include but go well beyond solar, electric vehicles, and tree planting to include such solutions as the fifteen-minute city, bioregions, azolla fern, food localization, fire ecology, decommodification, forests as farms, and the number one solution for the world: electrifying everything. Regeneration describes how an inclusive movement can engage the majority of humanity to save the world from the threat of global warming, with climate solutions that directly serve our children, the poor, and the excluded. It is the first book to describe and define the burgeoning regeneration movement spreading rapidly throughout the world. A radically new understanding of and practical approach to climate change by noted environmentalist Paul Hawken, creator of the New York Times bestseller Drawdown Regeneration offers a visionary new approach to climate change, one that weaves justice, climate, biodiversity, equity, and human dignity into a seamless tapestry of action, policy, and transformation that can end the climate crisis in one generation.

Hide novel kiersten white5/24/2023 There’s clearly an underlying lore that is slowly revealed in drips and drabs, just enough to keep you going while not drowning you in exposition. It’s got a spooky hunger games vibe going throughout, which is only helped by having a Effie Trinket-esque character who I must admit, I really loved. There is definitely nothing weird, supernatural, or occult going on. When the sun goes down, they can return to base camp for some sleep and to prepare for the next day. The location is kept secret and they only discover after a (forced?) nap on the bus that they’ll be spending seven days in an abandoned amusement park.įrom sunup to sundown, each contestant must go into the park and hide. They seem to break down along two lines: those who are doing it because they need the money and those who are doing it because they think it’s some kind of reality tv show and they want to promote themselves or their brand. There are fourteen participants, seven men and seven women. Mack can’t say no to that amount of money.Įverything about the contest is kept incredibly secret. If you make it to the end, you win $50,000. Now she’s been invited to take part in a very interesting challenge: spend seven days playing hide and seek. In fact I have The Princess Diaries in my library stack also. Cabot's young adult titles (I believe I have read a lot of her adult titles). Morton all make great characters.All-in-all, it's a great fast-paced quick young adult read. The other characters are also enjoyable, Will, Lance, Jennifer, Marco and Mr. And all of this moves the book to it's conclusion.Characterization isn't deep - this is more plot driven, but you do learn about Ellie. Within days of starting at Avalon High she is thrust in with the most popular boy in school, his best friend and his girlfriend. She figures she will join the track team and just be an ordinary girl. Ellie is one of those ordinary girls who doesn't expect to stick out in a new school. Avalon High is a young adult novel featuring Ellie, a high school junior who finds herself in a new school and in a new town while her parents are on sabbatical in Annapolis, Maryland. I was looking through my stacks of books yesterday for just a quick, fun read and I found it in my library stack. Rickey henderson howard bryant5/24/2023 While Good certainly addresses all that made Caminiti a beloved player by fans in both Houston and San Diego - especially his often breathtaking fielding at the hot corner - he also focuses on the off-field challenges that haunted him throughout his life. It is impossible to imagine a more thorough rendering of Caminiti’s life. Not only teammates and coaches, but also people he was in rehab with and the man who supplied him with his steroids, among dozens upon dozens of others. Over the course of his research, Good spoke with practically everyone connected with Caminiti. In recent months, three new biographies on baseball icons have been released, and in their own way, each does a great job of capturing these icons in their fullness, showing not only what made them remarkable athletes, but fascinating people as well.įirst is Dan Good’s biography of 1996 NL MVP Ken Caminiti, Playing Through the Pain: Ken Caminiti and the Steroids Confession That Changed Baseball Forever, a book Good spent a full decade researching and writing. And yet they are people like you and I with their own particular struggles and aspirations and inner lives that an exclusive focus on their on-field achievements can ignore. It can be hard to capture the man behind the on-field achievements, but three new books do just that for Rickey Henderson, Ken Caminiti and Jackie Robinson.īaseball history is full of iconic figures, those whose achievements are so outsized that it is difficult to imagine them as mere humans.
